iPhone OS 4.0 to support multitasking?

Apparently emulates Mac OS X Expose concept

iPhone OS 4.0 to support multitasking?

Apple Insider believes it has the scoop on the iPhone's 4.0 operating system's killer app. According to its sources, which are "people familiar with Apple's plans for the new firmware", the next iPhone operating system will let you run multiple third-party apps simultaneously and swap between them in a multitasking interface.

While most modern smartphones let you jump between apps and tools, the iPhone has stubbornly avoided that territory, with Apple saying it would kill the phone's battery life and harm the intuitive and simple user interface that the iPhone boasts.

Brave iPhone users with jailbroken devices have had access to multitasking for some time, but if Apple Insider's report is true, legitimate iPhone users will join them soon.

The multitasking interface will be familiar to Mac OS X users as it apparently will resemble Apple's Expose feature. On the desktop, Expose shows every open window on the screen at once and allows you to click one to see it full size. If it hits the iPhone, you'll just see the icons of currently open apps.

Other features included in the article include a global mailbox view for email and the ability to add individual contacts to the home screen.
