Put the plastic to the metal with CTA's iPhone steering wheel

Just as the first wave of accessories begin to hit iPhone following the release of firmware update 3.0, CTA Digital has unveiled its iPhone and iPod Touch steering wheel.

Unlike other accessories requiring access to device drivers, the plastic contraption is intended as an improved way for playing racing games. Apparently, control using just your iPhone isn't as precise as you think.

According to the product's official website, "This wheel gives you the feel of driving a vehicle instead of making sharp, erratic turns as you twist your iPhone or iPod Touch from side to side."

All models of iPhone and iPod Touch are supported. Each can be snapped into the steering wheel using a plastic adapter that sits inside the accessory.

While the steering wheel is an interesting idea, the question has to be raised as to its portability. Considering that the reason iPhone gaming has taken off due in large part its mobile form factor, a huge steering wheel incapable of being put into your pocket works against that appeal.
