Nintendo: Apple poses a ‘significant threat’

Quite a lot of commentators were incensed when we performed a comparison between the iPhone 4 and 3DS a few months back, claiming that we couldn’t compare what was primarily a phone to a dedicated handheld games console.

Now, however, it’s not just us. Nintendo itself is making the comparisons.

Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s president, has spoken up about the threat of the fruit-based company to the big N’s traditional market dominance, calling it a ‘significant threat’.

‘Do I think that in the near term they can hurt us more than Microsoft? Absolutely’.

He went on to describe the differences between the two platforms in much the same way that Sony has recently, stating that Nintendo’s platform has the edge on longer games like Dragon Quest, and a strong selection of first-party franchises like Zelda and Mario at its disposal.
