Rumour: Apple's next iPhone will house in-cell touch panels
|

According to DigiTimes, sources "in Apple's supply chain" are reporting that the forthcoming iPhone refresh will arrive packing in-cell touch panels manufactured by Sharp and Toshiba Mobile Display (TMD).

Both companies will apparently ramp up production of in-cell panels during the second quarter of this year, with Sharp using its 5.5G lines and TMD using its 6G lines to produce the components.

If this rumour turns out to be true, Apple's current touch panel suppliers, TPK Holdings and Wintek, will be significantly impacted.

In response, TPK has revealed it's working on TOL (touch on lens) single-glass touch solutions, which are said to be perfect for high-end devices.
