Eight Misbehavin': the best iPhone 4G leak spoofs
Gizmodon't make me laugh
The online commentary for Gizmodo's iPhone 4G saga is split straight down the middle. On one side are the pundits and journalists, each trying to glean whatever modicum of new information they can, or fervently discussing the moral, legal and ethical repercussions of the entire affair.
On the other side are the jokers, spoofers, and lampooners, all trying to find a funny angle on what is admittedly a already rather comical situation. Because, well, it's not every day that a company as menacingly secretive as Apple manages to lose the top secret prototype iPhone in a German Beer Garden.
Here are eight funny videos, blog posts, and images that poke fun at the baffling iPhone 4G leak.
David Letterman's Top 10 Reasons...
The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs is a pretty funny spoof of Steve Jobs's diary, complete with the tagline, "Dude, I invented the friggin' iPhone. Have you heard of it?"
The fake Jobs titles his post "Gizmodo suddenly not in a hurry to break a scoop", pointing out that the gadget blog waited the entire weekend before reporting that police raided Chen's house.
Fake Jobs (Fobs) writes "Penal code? Please. Cite your little laws all you want. Write memos to the cops. I own the cops. They work for me. So do the judges and the prosecutors."
Dilbert's co-worker Wally
Scott Adams, the cartoonist behind Dilbert, threw together a couple of funny comics on the story. But in the tipsy turvy world of comic-strip publishing, Adams knew he wouldn't be able to get them out without messing up the current backlog of funnies.
So instead, he threw them both onto his blog (click here to check them out). Both see co-worker Wally getting a little inebriated and losing the phone, the second comic making fun of the rather ludicrous idea that the whole mess-up could be staged by Apple as a viral marketing campaign.
These are Jason Chen's computersTumblr’s editorial director posted an image on his Tumblr (would you believe it!) that got plenty of laughs and a few hundred reblogs.
Spoofing Gizmodo's declarative headline "This is Apple's next iPhone", topherchris showed what Apple might blog after the Californian authorities raided the Gizmodo editor's home.
Something Awful's 'On stolen iPhones'More of a scathing criticism of Gizmodo's journalism than a joke, but it was written with Something Awful's trademark flair for caustic commentary that makes it a must read account of the sorry tale.
Johnny "DocEvil" Titanium makes special mention of yet another story Gizmodo wrote on the saga. The article - which claims that by making the human error of losing a phone, Apple could no longer be seen as magical - is described as "nauseatingly puerile", and "reads like a high school newspaper that just discovered evidence that the principal wears a toupee."

Craig Rowin gives the full 'unboxing' of the bag, rifles through the purse, and steals some money for good measure.
Lufthansa offers Gray Powell a rideEuropean airline company Lufthansa saw a golden opportunity to get some press by offering Gray Powell, the engineer who lost the phone, a free trip to Germany. He was chugging ale in a German beer garden, after all.
"At Lufthansa we also noted with great interest your passion for German beer and culture. We thought you could use a break soon--and therefore would like to offer you complimentary business class transportation to Munich, where you can literally pick up where you last left off."
Cheeky. But as Apple founder Steve Wozniak told Gizmodo, Powell wasn't fired for the major booboo, so he's probably a little too busy for a holiday right now.
Steve Wozniak's custom T-shirtSpeaking of Steve Wozniak, the Apple co-founder spilled his guts to Gizmodo while wearing this awfully topical garment. If these things aren't in Hot Topic by the week's end, we'll be disappointed.
Woz says, "If it were me instead of Gray and someone did this I'd be (a) pissed if it wasn't funny, or (b) laughing if it was funny."
Hopefully Woz is laughing, because the internet has certainly found the funny side of this saga.
