Apple has a new product out. And with it, the internet goes through its usual motions to give you the best coverage possible. The device has been reviewed, stripped down, photographed with massively detailed cameras, and then destroyed in as many bizarre and humorous ways as possible.
That’s right: expensive product destruction is the taboo smut of gadget lovers the world over. If the video view counts are anything to by, tech fans love nothing more than to see the iPhone get abused, wrecked, and burned. Dirty bastards.
The first video, predictably, comes from Tom Dickson and his magical Blendtec Blender. If you’ve been living under a rock, this YouTube sensation shows off the power of this industrial blender by reducing objects to dust after a few minutes of blending.
His 1 million-viewed destruction of the iPhone 4 is the latest in his line of Apple product decimation, following the smoky grey dust of the recently blended iPhone, iPhone 3G, and iPad.
The next video is from the DoveTastic Microwave Show. I don’t want to spoil the video for you, but they chuck the new device in a Microwave, turn it on, and the iPhone 4 shoots up in flames before melting into a gooey chunk of black plastic.
And finally, as Richard Ryan explains, “today, we’re gonna shoot a fucking iPhone,” before rolling back in maniacal laughter. Apple’s new smartphone gets a handy air hole the size of your thumb, thanks to a 50 calibre round fired from a Barrett M82A1 sniper rifle. You can watch that one in Super Slow Motion, in 1080p.
What’s left? Chuck the iPhone 4 off the Empire State Building? Smash it with a hammer? Just use it to play games and make phone calls? The options are limitless.
