As is customary these days, the Apple online store was down last night to allow some minor adjustments to be made on the backend.

The background preparations in this case were, of course, to accommodate the availability of iPhone 4 for pre-order from today.

By 9.30am, enthusiastic iPhone punters in the UK could once again get access to the store and stake their claim on Apple’s next generation smartphone.

For £499 a 16GB iPhone 4 can be yours, whilst the 32GB model will set you back £599.

Those looking for the white flavour of The Big A's new must-have handset will be disappointed, since it's in Apple’s own words ‘currently unavailable for pre-order’.

As expected, all available models of iPhone 4 will ship by June 24th.

One more thing. For the first time in iPhone launch history, UK consumers have a choice of carriers.

All of the major telco players have joined the party this time, including O2, Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile, and 3, meaning that any new iPhone 4 purchased will be SIM-free and ready for action on any of the above networks.
