So it’s almost 11 o’clock in the evening, and having spent the last five hours attempting to update my iPad 2 to iOS 5 I think I’ve finally given up.

Twice I’ve downloaded the software and backed up all 40 or so gigs of my iPad’s hard-drive, and both attempts have culminated in failure. Adding insult to injury, the second time it happened (after a hefty download) my freshly blanked iPad went into Restore limbo.

My own particular woes are not, alas, an isolated incidence. One of the current trending topics on twitter is the sinister-sounding ‘Error 3200’, which refers to one of the most common messages folks are getting when attempting to update.

The error code (and the others from the same family like 3014 - yes, I’ve had them all) appears to refer to a routing problem going by the Apple's support page, but it’s more likely that the servers are being hammered by countless iPhone, iPod, and iPad users all desperate to get their hands on the latest OS. Just a wild guess, that one.

If you’re on the fence about whether to upgrade now, our advice is wait until tomorrow when, hopefully, everything will be running smoothly again.
