How to rearrange the iPhone home screen
Agitated icons
One thing about the iPhone and iPod touch home screens is they tend to look like a jumble of icons, with no real categorisation.
This home screen reaches further than you might realise, however, so let's take a look at how you can keep your icons organised and easy to find.
After all, what's the world without order?
Unlock your iPhone so you're looking at the collection of application and games icons. As you can see, there's no real order to them. |
Touch and hold any of the icons without moving your finger.
After a couple of seconds, they'll all start to jiggle. Groovy. |
Some of the icons will have a small 'x' in the top left corner. This is essentially an uninstaller, so if there are any apps you want to remove, now's your chance.
Be warned that removing it can mean you also lose some data. |
With the icons jiggling around, touching and holding your finger on one allows you to slide it around. Once it's been suitably repositioned, you can let go.
This also includes the four icons on the bottom bar. Placing an icon in the bottom bar means it'll be visible on all the home screen pages. |
If you want to create additional home screens, drag an icon to the left hand edge of the screen, and the page will flip over to the next one.
You can keep creating as additional pages depending on your requirements.
As you can see from the screenshots here, we've created one for applications, one for games, and one at the end for items we don't use very often. |
When you've finished rearranging your icons, press the home button once, and they'll cease their agitation.
You can now boast a better organised home screen on your iPhone or iPod touch.
Go tell your friend. |
