Latest figures from DS-mad Japan suggest that there's lots for us to look forward to.

Most of the top 10 best-selling games during 2005 were for the DS, with Animal Crossing: Wild World topping the charts with 1.2 million copies sold. It’s due for release in the UK on the 31st of March.

And there will be plenty of other Japanese hits making their way to the UK in 2006. Nintendo’s Brain Training games (due sometime in March) look interesting, even if they are educational titles that make you do maths. Konami’s long-running football game Winning Eleven - better known here as Pro Evolution Soccer - will be high on many people’s most anticipated lists.

Also doing the business in Japan was Bandai’s Tamagotchi DS game which sold almost 800,000. It will be released by Atari under the title Tamagotchi Connexion Corner Shop on the 17th of March.

The top 10 Japanese games of 2005 were

1. Animal Crossing DS (DS) 2. Gran Turismo 4 (PS2) 3. Brain Training (DS) 4. Nintendogs (DS) 5. Winning Eleven 9 (DS) 6. Dynasty Warriors 5 (PS2) 7. Yawaraka Atama Juku (DS) 8. Tamagotchi (DS) 9. Kingdom Hearts II (PS2) 10. Mario Kart DS (DS)
