An unexplained apocalypse has unleashed a herd of zombies and it's up to you to protect granny's house from being eaten. Zombies & Me is all about surviving a continuous flood of undead, running circles around your grandmother's house in an effort to distract them from destroying her country cottage.

Staying alive is objective number one, though your second goal lies in drawing zombies to mosey within bomb blast zones. Appearing randomly in the vicinity of granny's house, these blast zones obliterate any zombies stupid enough to be caught underneath. Unfortunately, you're subject to the same danger and avoiding them is imperative to staying in the game.

Moving your finger across the screen instructs your miniature survivalist to dart about the area, leading zombies through the bomb targets that appear. You earn points for every undead you kill - moreover, bonuses are heaped on for group kills. As you rack up undead deaths, zombies stream onto the screen at faster rates and in greater numbers as the panic level increases.

High scores are kept only on your handset, sadly. The lack of Twitter integration, Facebook Connect support, or even game-specific leaderboards severely limits the game's replay value and competitive appeal. Aiming to beat your buddy's high score would add competitive flair to a game that encourages replay on the sole concept of one-upping your personal best.

The greater issue, though, rests in the game's lack of a compelling hook. Zombies & Me is a capable game, yet it fails to grab you in the same way as other bite-sized titles. It doesn't possess the simple charm of Flight Control nor inventiveness of DrawRace.

It's mildly entertaining in such a way that once you've played it once, there's little to motivate coming back for more. Zombies & Me has a great look and the concept is executed in a proficient manner. That isn't enough, however, to have it gnawing at your brain in the same way as rival quick hit classics.

Zombies & Me

Zombies & Me is a neat idea that just doesn't have the same compulsiveness as its bite-sized rival iPhone games
