Reliance Games has announced Zombie Deathmatch, a mobile fighting game that, for the first time ever, features zombies fighting zombies.

There's plenty of depth on offer here, with a massive assortment of one and two-gesture moves to learn, loads of zombie classes to unlock, and a ton of weapons and armour to outfit them with.

You play as a human immune to the zombie infection, and have to build your own horde to fight off the zombie threat and take down the Voodoo Shaman who controls the city.

Zombie Deathmatch is set to launch on iOS and Android this October. We've spoken to Amit Khanduja, CEO at Reliance Entertainment Digital, about how Zombie Deathmatch sets itself apart from other fighting games, the challenges faced during development, and the plans for future updates.

What do you think Zombie Deathmatch offers that you can’t get from any other title on the App Store?

"Zombie Deathmatch is the first action game that features zombies fighting other zombies and takes the fighting genre to a whole new level by giving the player the widest assortment of one and two-gesture moves to learn and master.

"You play as an “immune”, a human that cannot turn into a zombie, and emerge as the hero for humanity by creating your own horde of zombie fighters armed with an array of bone-crushing weapons, armor, and deadly upgrades to take on the undead in the gruesome fighting leagues.

"Your horde will include zombies from each of the 3 classes: Brute, Mauler and Stalker, each of which has unique skills, strengths, powers, and attacks. Blending the sci-fi story of brutal zombie combat with the new action controls immerses the player into a new level of fighting entertainment.

"Zombie Deathmatch will launch on the App Store and Google Play this October. You can learn more about the game and pre-register to earn the deadly Railsplitter weapon at www.zombie-deathmatch.com."

What challenges did you face during development, and how did you overcome them?

"The first challenge was to create a believable world where zombies fought each other.

"We wanted these zombies to be your worst nightmare so, rather than slow and plodding, they're powerful, agile, and move in deadly and unpredictable ways.

"Our second challenge was to create a metagame that we could expand indefinitely. You have to strategize how to form your horde by deciding which class of zombie will give you an edge, when to bring in weapons and armor, and what to upgrade and when.

"Players strategize how to form their horde, decide what class of zombie will have an edge, and when to bring in weapons and armor. The metagame of managing a horde of zombies and selecting the right tool for the job is a lot of the fun."

Which part of Zombie Deathmatch are you personally the most proud of and why?

"We are proud of the variety of moves and gestures the player can learn and master. Fights have a lot of depth and there is no one strategy that leads to victory.

"You'll have to use every management technique you know to build a strong zombie horde that will win each battle. You'll decide which zombie to bring, armour and weapons it uses, and what sequence of unique impact moves it follows. The fights are graphic to fit the theme."

Do you have anything planned in terms of future updates, and if so, can you give us any details of what these might include?

"Any month could bring a new scream and scare your way and we plan to add some fun new zombies. Players will learn to expect the unexpected.

"You can safely expect the Undead Live Events with global leaderboards that will let players test their skills against player hordes across the globe, as well as more twisted weapons and armor, and new leagues and tag team modes."

Have you any plans to bring Zombie Deathmatch to any other mobile platforms such as Windows Phone?

"Zombie Deathmatch will launch on the App Store and Google Play this October, shortly followed by the Amazon Appstore. Windows Phone will follow soon after that.

"Stay tuned to our Facebook page and the official website for more updates."
