Yo! Let's Up review - A block-piling platformer that'll put a smile on your face

Yo! Let's Up is a game that mixes up two of the simplest concepts in mobile gaming. It's a tower builder and a one touch platformer all wrapped up in a silly art style.

And it works surprisingly well. There's not that much in terms of depth here, but there's a jaunty swagger to proceedings that makes the game surprisingly endearing.

Plus there are hats to collect. Lots of hats. One of them is poop. If you've ever wanted to build a tower while wearing a poop hat, then this is the game for you.

The controls here are super simple. You tap the screen and your little white square avatar hops in the air. Blocks fly in from the left and right of the screen and you need to land on top of them.

As well as that, you need to pile the blocks up in a reasonably regular manner. So landing on the edge of a long block that's ended up perched see-saw like on a small block is a bad idea.

There are coins to collect, and in some of the game modes these straighten out your wonky tower. In other game modes, they very much do not.

You can spend the coins on hats. Some of these will unlock new game modes, others will just make you look dapper. One of them is poop.

Things progress pretty quickly, you're always finding new modes and hats, and while the core gameplay doesn't change that much, the new additions do offer different challenges.

And the whole thing is just pleasant and engaging fun. There's no ulterior motive here, just the simple joy of bouncing up and down.

And sure, that might lose its spark after a while, but this is throwaway mobile gaming at its ridiculous best. Tap, jump, fall, giggle, go again.

You're not going to write essays about how Yo! Let's Up changed the fabric of gaming. However, I don't know if I mentioned this, but you can wear a hat that's made out of poop.
