There have been rumours flying around for years now about MMO behemoth World of Warcraft (WoW) coming to mobile devices. We've even seen the game running on an iPad via cloud-gaming service Gaikai, but, alas, nothing has come to fruition as yet.

WoW developer Blizzard is still on the case, though, for it told Eurogamer that it is constantly discussing ways of bringing a modified version of Mr T's and Mila Kunis's favourite fantasy game to iPhone.

Senior WoW producer John Lagrave explained, "Here's your platform, you've got to put an interface, what do you do? So yes we have [looked into mobile] and we always are. Maybe we'll stumble on the great way to put WoW on the phone - maybe we won't, but we're certainly looking into it."

He continued, "We won't do it until we think it's decent. But it's interesting and the world is evolving towards that little handheld device - I'd have fun on it, that's absolutely the case. It would be foolish for any game developer to not be looking at that."

Baby steps

He admitted that up to this point the company has only managed to put a "very simplistic" version of its wildly popular MMO on mobile devices: the existing World of Warcraft Mobile Armory app for iPhone only lets you check auctions, plan your adventures, and view your armoury, for instance.

Lagrave concluded by saying, "When we have an epiphany, everyone will know. But for now, no epiphany!"
