Many people think location-based features are one of the big opportunities for mobile gaming.
The newly released
Wishing Stars is fairly specific in terms of where you can use it however.
The GPS-enabled game only works on iPhone 3G or 3GS if you're in Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California.
The reason is it's a quest-based game that takes a scavenger hunt approach that has you searching around the theme park for clues.
Some quests take place in specific areas of Disneyland, such as Fantasyland or Toontown. Some take place while you're waiting in line for attractions like Pirates of the Caribbean or Haunted Mansion. Other quests span the entire park.
As you solve each clue, you'll earn a fragment of a wishing star, which is recorded as a GPS location you have to match to unlock. Get to the end of a quest and you'll have enough fragments to piece together an entire wishing star. Your goal is to find all 14 of the stars.
Another significant fact about the game is it's not an official Disney product. It's published by The Future of Pinball, which was previously best known as the company behind pinball documentary,
TILT.
It's also planning a version for Walt Disney World Resort, Orlando, Florida.
