Music-based side-scroller Wave Trip will crash onto the App Store at midnight tonight.

Singing from the same songbook as Lucky Frame's previous melodic mash-up, Bad Hotel, Wave Trip merges a classic genre - in this case, an R-Type-style shooter - with musical elements.

You play as a geometric astronaut, who must zoom through a number of similarly right-angled worlds to rescue her friends.

Wave Trip's attractively minimal levels are filled with pulsing orbs. Flying though these orbs trigger sound effects that bleep and bloop along in time to the soundtrack.

Not every object is an audio cue, though. You'll also come up against flying enemies looking to end your astronaut's tuneful journey with a nasty head-on collision.

Best of all, Wave Trip comes with its own level editor, which lets you create your songs, then share them with other players.

You can buy Wave Trip on iPhone and iPad for £1.49 / $1.99 from midnight tonight.
