Strategy veteran Slitherine unveils Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon for iOS

After acquiring the licence to make Warhammer 40,000-themed games, historical strategy game creator (and Hogwarts house) Slitherine has just unveiled its first Warhammer 40,000-based title.

It's called Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon, it's based in Games Workshop's Battle for Armageddon universe, and it will be out on iOS and PC in 2014.

It's the end of the world as we know it

This forthcoming Slitherine game is set during the Second War of Armageddon. Players will lead the Imperial forces of the Armageddon Steel Legion and a handful of Space Marines against Ghazghkull Thraka's massive Ork Waaagh! invasion.

If you know what any of those words mean, more power to you.

In play, it will be a turn-based, hex-based strategy game, taking place across a branching campaign with 30-odd scenarios. According to Slitherine, Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon will feature a detailed combat model, with terrain, weather, and morale effects.

You put a hex on me

You'll have more than 100 unit types (with unique roles, stats, and special abilities) at your disposal. Plus, you'll be able to carry over battle-hardened veterans from scenario to scenario, using their experience and upgrading their equipment.

There will also be "extensive modding options delivered through a powerful and easy-to-use game editor". And multiplayer, with a separate set of maps designed specifically for balance.

No screenshots yet, I'm afraid. We'll know more in the run-up to the game's launch in Q1 2014.

Slitherine's iOS library includes Conquest! Medieval Realms, Slitherine's Legion, and Battle Academy.
