Sometimes you look at a game and you think "ooh, that looks neat."

Warbits, which has just been announced over on the Touch Arcade forums, is one of those.

It's a fresh take on the Advance Wars template that's set to hit the App Store later in the year.

And there's something about the screenshots and video we've seen that makes us think it might be the real deal. Whatever that means.

The portly cartoon graphics look particularly unique, and it looks like the base-building, war-mongering gameplay is in place too.

As well as a story driven campaign the game will feature pass and play local multiplayer and turn-based online battles powered by Game Center for up to four players.

There's no concrete release date for the game yet, but it should hopefully hit the App Store sometime later in the year.

We do know that it'll cost £1.99 / $2.99 and that it'll be a Universal app.

We also know that it looks really cool. And so do you if you watched the trailer above.

We'll let you know as soon as we find out when the game is set to land, and in the meantime why not check out the screenshots in the gallery at the top of the page.
