25 years after the first airing of the Japanese cartoon series, Voltron: Defender of the Universe, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment recently announced the first video game based on the original series.

Featuring characters from the series, gameplay is a combination of isometric exploration and 2D combat with 30 levels separated into six acts and will also feature video and audio from the animated classic.

Furthermore, fans of the series will be pleased to know that you can combine your giant robot lions to unleash devastating attacks such as the Lion Saber, Blazing Sword or Argon Force field as you battle your way through the galaxy in a quest to defeat the evil King Zarkon.

Already available on the US App Store Voltron is due for release in the UK and Europe later this month for £2.39 or $3.99. The game will also be made available for other mobiles and priced between $3-10, depending on your handset.
