SEGA releases Genesis fighter Virtua Fighter 2 for iPhone

Surprise! Fighting game Virtua Fighter 2 is the latest SEGA Genesis conversion to appear on iPhone and iPod touch.

The game popped up on the App Store overnight without warning, expanding SEGA's growing catalogue of emulated Genesis game.

While a new iPhone and iPod touch tailored instalment of the fighting series would be ideal, Virtua Fighter 2 will have to suffice with its classic characters and head-to-head multiplayer.

Opting to bring the 2D Genesis version rather than the more sophisticated 3D arcade iteration, SEGA brings eight fighters and eight stages.

Aside from the iPhone-specific controls, which are based on the rather unsightly Genesis emulator, the game comes with two-player Bluetooth competition.

Virtua Fighter 2 is available for iPhone and iPod touch at a price of £1.19/$1.99.
