Media.Vision, the Japanese developer behind the well-regarded Wild ARMs series and DS adventure The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road, has started work on an iPhone and iPod touch role-playing game.

A jobs listing on the company's website makes clear the developer's work on the game, which is being published by Square Enix.

As you may know, Square Enix has been one of the few major console publishers to make a push on the App Store with a number of original titles and notable ports including the recently revealed Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II remakes.

This new game, however, signifies a big new initiative. An original RPG means Square Enix is taking the platform much more seriously.

No further details are provided on either Media.Vision's or Square Enix's website aside from a pledged 2010 release.
