In the nine days since PopCap spin-off studio 4th & Battery announced its arrival and trailed its first game, Unpleasant Horse, it's seen more than its fair share of upsets. Which is perhaps appropriate, since the studio's remit is to create "edgier" games than PopCap's usual fare.

First the studio complained on Twitter last Thursday that Apple had rejected its app. "WTF? Apple rejected Unpleasant Horse cuz of "mature content?" We thought horses dying in meat grinders was wholesome family entertainment!"

And now, a week later, it seems the game has gone live on the App Store only to be pulled shortly afterwards.

A similar thing happened with Speedball 2 Evolution a couple of months ago. When we contacted developer Tower Studios to investigate developer Jon Hare told us that the abrupt takedown was a "complete mystery," promising that it would be back "very, very soon." And it was.

We've contacted PopCap for comment.
