fIn the App Store popularity battle between ninjas and zombies, it appears the undead still have the upper hand.
And US developer Riptide is taking full - indeed, ultimate - advantage of the situation with its social, free-to-play release Ultimate Battle Zombies.
Now available for iPhone, it's a zombie collection and fighting game that has you keeping zombies as pets, customising them up and giving them bitchin' offensive and defensive moves for multiplayer action.
Using Apple's Game Center, this happens in turn-based asynchronous bouts, with two zombies going head-to-head with the moves their owners have pre-programmed.
For this reason, the game currently only supports iPhones and iPod touches running iOS 5, although iOS 4 and native iPad support is planned in future.
Pimping the walking, fighting dead
Of course, this being a freemium game, you can make progress faster by buying power ups, zombie accessories, and new zombies with real cash via the in-game currency.
More content is planned too, with more zombie types such as granny and gorilla zombies being designed - there are six types available at launch.
Ultimate Battle Zombies is out now for iPhone and iPod touch (iOS 5). Check out the trailer for a taster.
