Transformers Earth Wars is an upcoming build and battler by Space Ape Games, the studio responsible for Rival Kingdoms. But it's much more than a simple reskin of their previous game.

Yes, you'll still build a base and place resource, research, and defensive buildings strategically in it in a bid to prevent its complete destruction when attacked. Oh, and the visuals are still delivered in gorgeous 3D.

Where Transformers Earth Wars differs drastically is in the fact that it's a love letter to the franchise it gets its name from.
We're not talking about the Michael Bay movies though. No, it instead invokes the Transformers of your youth, and even lets you tap on your favourite robot machines of death to watch an awesome animation of them doing the transform thing.

You'll pick a side between - of course - Autobots and Decepticons and then proceed to build your base and unlock new units. There are 48 of these to collect (24 for each side) and all of your favourites like Optimus Prime are present.
All units can be levelled up to 10 which improves their special abilities. You can also combine units into one incredibly powerful unit known as a Destructicon to really gain the upper hand in battle.

Battles are very similar to Rival Kingdoms or Clash of Clans. You pick an opponent to battle against and then place your units strategically on the battlefield, at which point they'll start blowing up your opponent's base.

You can then choose which special abilities they use and when, which gives you a nice extra layer of control.

There's also no energy system, so you can battle as much as you want. Your units do need time to recover between battles though, so you'll have to mix them up if you want to fight frequently. That does mean you'll gain a greater understanding of all of your units though.

Transformers Earth Wars will launch on mobile in Spring as a free to play title. We'll keep you posted.
