DChoc adds new Facebook features to Tower Bloxx with Live update

Everything's getting connected these days. At WWDC, Facebook and Twitter connectivity are de rigueur for even the simplest games, and the OpenFeint platform just got a big connected revamp too.

Small wonder then that even massively successful titles such as Digital Chocolate's Tower Bloxx are continuing to ramp up the ways you can tell your friends how much better you are than them.

Hence Tower Bloxx Live.

It's a free update for anyone who already has an iPhone or iPod touch copy of Tower Bloxx Deluxe (paid or lite - and that's 2.7 million of us), as well as a technology that's being added to all new versions of the game.

The reason is it extends the connected nature of competition.

For example, you can post your score to Facebook by logging into the site from within the game. More significantly, you can see how high your friends built their towers directly from your game screen thanks to the addition of little icons on the right hand side of the screen. We assume they strip the photo direct from the Facebook profile.

For those without Facebook - they do apparently exist - or when you don't have Wi-Fi or network coverage, the update also adds some fake friends for you to beat. But if Pizza Delivery Boy and QA Manager aren't interesting, you can take on the big boss: Digital Chocolate's head honcho himself - Mr Trip Hawkins.

He 'has' a score of 67 and when you beat it, you'll be awarded a 'I Beat Trip' badge.

Now, we're not sure how bothered the general unwashed will be about beating the founder of EA and 3DO, but Digital Chocolate is hoping the concept will take off. Indeed, if it does, expect to see more DChoc games with special 'I Beat Trip' achievements. There may even be an official blogsite where you can post screens and tell funny stories about your Hawkins-besting behaviour.

Or you could just stick to your real Facebook friends, although you might know some of them about as well as you know Trip.

The Tower Bloxx Live update is due to go live on 23th June.
