Top 10 iPhone games for grabbing easy OpenFeint achievements
|

When it comes to the OpenFeint social gaming network, there's one question which is yet to be answered - what exactly is the point of achievement points?

Seemingly given out at completely random in certain games while incredibly difficult to obtain in others, there doesn't appear to actually be a reason to collect these digital commodities.

And yet there's something oddly satisfying about unlocking points. Maybe it's seeing the box pop up to let you know you're a winner, or simply watching your OpenFeint score soar.

Now Pocket Gamer is here to help inflate your internet ego via a list of games that want to throw OpenFeint achievements at you.

It's a mix of free and paid apps, so you can decide whether it's worth buying a game or two simply because you want to get that warm, fuzzy 'achievement unlocked' feeling inside.

Here's our guide to ten iPhone games which will expand your OpenFeint waistline.

Pin the Donkey - free

Work out where the donkey is and pin his tail back on. The game throws a bundle of points at you for completing the task in a certain number of attempts - for example, pin the tail on your 200th try, and you'll gain a whopping 340 points.

There's also 200 points on offer for simply checking out other Half Fast games and selecting the sponsor image.

Carnival Balloon Race - free

Make sure you grab the free version of this, which features the full game with in-game ads. Squirt water at a target to make a balloon go up.

Hit the bullseye spot-on for 30 seconds, and you'll rake in 800+ points instantly.

Buster Red - free

A technical glitch can be exploited in this frantic shmup. Visit the Options menu, and the ship demo in the background will string together a huge combo.

The game counts the demo combo as your own, and awards 200+ points for simply watching. Another 300+ points are easy to grab via a single playthrough.

Depict - free

I don't have a single artistic bone in my body, yet within an hour of play, I'd racked up a score of 300+.

A simple case of achievements for time played, and it's good fun, too.

iStunt Reloaded - free

As with Carnival Balloon Race, make sure you grab the free, ad-ridden version. There's an easy 700+ points offer here, earned by playing through all the levels.

A couple of hundred points are awarded for doing a variety of tricks, which are all simple to pull off, too.

Honey Pot - 99c / 59p

This hexagonal Tetris puzzler throws points at you the further you get. Each level earns you points, while completing lines will reap lots of lovely points, too.

Simply booting up each individual game mode will increase your OpenFeint score. An hour of play will earn you a good 500+ points.

Above & Beyond Air Combat - $2.99 / £1.79

Not only is this dogfight shooter great fun, but it also comes with an abundance of easily-obtainable achievements.

Points are awarded for shooting down enemies and finding new islands. It's a little more pricey that the other games in this list, but as Tracy's review explains, it's well worth the asking price.

Fame - 99c / 59p

A short experience, but one which makes with the point giving. Perfect a song? 150 points. Play as both characters? 50 points.

Easy pickings, especially if you like your rhythm games.

Chop Chop Runner - 99c / 59p

Like Canabalt, but with ninjas. Points are awarded for running a certain distance, and for killing enemy ninjas along the way.

The game is fairly easy, so achieving 300+ points is simple, while grabbing another 200 after that comes with time.

Tapping Skillz - 99c / 59p

This is one for those people who don't care about gameplay and just want the points. Blocks appear on the screen, and you tap them.

Block taps awards you with 100 points. It's that simple. There's 1300 points on offer, so if fun really means nothing to you, this one is worth investing in.
