Kan Gao, creator of the beloved narrative adventure game To the Moon, revealed today that the game will be getting a full-length animated film. The movie is in active production right now.

To the Moon, which was created in RPG Maker, surprised us all with its touching story when it initially launched a few years ago. The game tells the story of two scientists who use an innovative new technology to enter the memories of a dying elderly man to grant him his final wish.

The upcoming film is receiving funding from investors in China, while the movie will actually be made in Japan. Gao noted that top-notch animation companies are behind the project, though there are no details on who they are just yet. We do know, however, that To the Moon has a larger budget than the popular anime film Your Name.
