[Update] Rovio's Tiny Thief gets sneaky, goes free-to-download

Updated on April 6, 6:51pm GMT - Rovio has since announced that "Tiny Thief is now free to download for Angry Birds fans on iOS & Android". We've contacted Rovio to see if this is a new permanent price for the app, and also inquired about users what users who purchased the app at launch can do to restore content that was previously available. We'll update this story when we hear back. The original story follows.

There's a compelling new reason to pick up Tiny Thief, and it's not just because of the Bewitched DLC update that came earlier in the week.

Rovio's cute gem of a puzzler has just dropped its price down to 'free' on both the App Store and Google Play you see, and it's hard to top a deal like that.

We don't have any idea what prompted Rovio to drop the price on Tiny Thief, nor do we have any idea how long the sale will last, but this is only the second time that Tiny Thief has sold for nothing.

Like a thief in the night

In our review of the Bronze Award-winning Tiny Thief, we noted that "the animation is sublime, and each level is packed full of tiny little incidental details that help you form an attachment to our protagonist and his pet."

Unfortunately, we also noted it had "limited gameplay" and was more or less a "charming reduction" of a classic point-and-click adventure - but those niggles fade away when the asking price is free.

The new supernaturally-themed Bewitched DLC pack will cost you $1.99 / £1.49 to download, but that plus a free download of Tiny Thief is still cheaper than the game itself was earlier this week.
