iPhone's Sims 3 to have in-game micro purchases

New In App Purchase feature to bring in the Simolians

iPhone's Sims 3 to have in-game micro purchases

Stu's been busy live blogging Apple's big announcement about the iPhone's 3.0 update, which included a rather juicy titbit regarding the implementation of micro purchases.

This is a feature a lot of iPhone games have been waiting for, but EA were first to jump up onto the stage and announce that the iPhone version of The Sims 3 will be making use of this In App Purchase system.

Apparently, Simolians (the game's currency) are going to be substituted for cold hard cash, allowing you to buy all manner of items in-game. Considering the massive number of add-ons, downloads, furniture, appliances, clothes and other goodies the previous Sims games sported, this could become something of a virtual Ikea for EA.

You'll even be able to buy a Sims 3 hi-fi and use it to play music stored on your iPhone. The boundaries of reality have never looked so thin.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
