Evil comes to Springfield in update to The Simpsons: Tapped Out

In The Simpsons: Tapped Out, Springfield is destroyed by a nuclear explosion. In the just-released Halloween update, it gets infested with zombies. This place just can't catch a break, can it.

So, yes, about four weeks early, EA's FarmVille-esque city-building game has received a Treehouse of Horror update.

In this Halloween-themed bundle, there are spooky new characters (Flanders has turned into the Devil, for example, while Marge now cackles away on a flying broomstick), buildings, and quests.

There's also a bunch of new collectibles for you to find, such as artefacts (that uncover the secrets of the Mayan Calendar), toilet paper, and eggs (to splatter other players' creations with).

Oh, and in a neat bit of transmedia marketing, the upcoming The Simpsons TV episode Treehouse of Horror XXIII will apparently provide clues to unlocking a new outfit for Homer.

You can download the update for the F2P The Simpsons: Tapped Out game from the App Store right now.
