Just when you thought it was safe to turn the telly back on, more international sport arrives in the Claret Jug-like shape of The Open Championship.

Teeing off on Thursday 15th July in St Andrews, 156 players from around planet Earth will ignore Mark Twain’s quip about golf being a good walk spoiled and spend four days strolling about on the balmy Scottish coast.

To celebrate this year’s Championship returning to the Home of Golf, Scotch developer Cobra Mobile is releasing an official iPhone game called The Old Course, featuring all 18 holes.

Low scores can be posted to über-popular Facebook’s leaderboards, whilst birdies, bogies, and albatrosses can all be compared in ngmoco’s Plus+ online community.

More immediate challenges can be issued via Bluetooth multiplayer. Just don’t go bothering Tiger Woods – you never know what might happen.

The Old Course has apparently driven onto the New Zealand App Store rough this morning, so should be appearing in a bunker near you imminently for 99c / 59p / €0.79.

If that weren’t enough links news for you, The R&A, one of the two main golfing bodies, has released an official 2010 Open Championship iPhone app.

Check in on live feeds from three of the St Andrews’s holes, watch video highlights, and view the back nine performance of your favourite pro swinger.
