The Elder Scrolls: Blades is finally out in the wild - in early access, at least - and we've been playing loads of Bethesda's latest mobile RPG.
In this guide we will run through the equipment you'll be using, what makes for a good character build, and what you should be looking out for in a good piece of gear.
Chests will have lots of tempting gear for you, but that's never the end. Read this guide to find out how to equip the very best gear in the game, and go into dungeons totally prepared to take on foes.
The equipment that suits you
As with any Elder Scrolls adventure, your equipment will largely be dictated by your playstyle and choice of weapons. This is still true in The Elder Scrolls: Blades, and depending on what rare skills your equipment may have, it can make you even more powerful.
At the beginning of the game though, it's simple. Equip whatever benefits you the most, as early on, you may not even have something equipped to each slot.
Heavy armor is the easy choice, because it offers a lot of defence. The problem is though it can be slow, or not have skills attached that you might want.
If you're going in with a two-handed battleaxe, then using heavy armor makes sense, but if you're fighting with a tiny dagger, then leather might be a better accompaniment. Same goes for you heavy Magicka users.
But in the early game, none of these styles are essential. Early on, before you have enough skills and armor to cement a playstyle, just take whatever offers the best stats at the time.
As you progress through the game and cement into a playstyle which favours an armor type, then you can think about getting specific with your build. It's really determined more by how you spend you skill points as you level up.

Equipment properties
The skills attached to equipment is incredibly important. Equipment can give buffs to attack, defence, health, and loads more modifiers that can make you more fearsome in battle.
It's for that reason that crafting and buying equipment is rarely worthwhile before you have the Enchanter's Tower, as equipment found from chests is more likely to be valuable.
Even if a different piece of equipment has better base stats, the skills and properties attached to what you have might make it still a better option.

Temper temper
Once you get some solid and imposing pieces of gear you want to stick with, you'll have to upgrade them at the Smithy so you can do more damage in battle.
Tempering will of course require gold and materials, in addition to the fact you'll likely need to upgrade your Smithy to make it truly useful.
Though make sure not to be crafting or tempering anything while you need repairs done - repairing equipment won't be available.

Chests
Sure, enemies in dungeons will drop weapons occasionally, but there's no doubt that the best weapons in the game come from chests.
They come ready with skills and specific advantages that can make you more fearsome in battle without having to go to the Enchanter's Tower.
In general, you should always make sure to open and unlock chests whenever you can, just try not to spend too many gems on it.
