Elder Scrolls: Blades is expected to land on iOS later this week, bringing one of the most beloved RPG series of all time to mobile.

The likes of Oblivion and Skyrim have pretty much defined the top end of the role playing game genre for the past two console generations. Now mobile owners are finally getting a unique entry to call our own.

Which got us to thinking about all those other top RPG series that we still need to see on mobile. And by that we mean a recognisable take on the series rather than a barely related mobile tie-in.

I mean, we had Elder Scrolls: Legends before Blades, but no one really regards that as a proper Elder Scrolls game.

Are there any other RPG series you think are long overdue a mobile version? Let us know in the comments below.

1
The Witcher

The Witcher 3 is widely regarded to be one of the finest role playing games of this generation, with a gritty open world fantasy universe and stunning production values. The previous two games caused quite a stir in their time, too.

And yet we still haven't seen a The Witcher game on mobile. Yes, there was 2015's The Witcher Battle Arena, a perfectly serviceable online arena game. But it wasn't really a The Witcher game, was it? No, it wasn't. Glad we got that sorted.

2
Torchlight

Torchlight was supposed to come out on mobile not all that long ago. In fact, a version of the game soft-launched on Android last year, before being scrapped when developer Runic Games folded.

News that a new Torchlight game is being made by some ex-Runic staff has us dreaming of a proper mobile Torchlight experience. Torchlight 2 in particular is a brilliant action RPG in the Diablo mould, but with a more inviting steampunk aesthetic.

3
Fallout

Did you like Fallout Shelter? Plenty of people did. Even we thought it was quite a lot of fun. But it wasn't really Fallout at all.

The real Fallout is a series of cynical yet often grimly funny sci-fi RPGs set in a post-apocalyptic future. Whether you're talking about the epic FPS hybrids of recent years or the earlier isometric efforts, we'd really like to see the true Fallout experience coming to mobile in some form.

4
Dragon Age

BioWare's dark fantasy RPG trilogy has won a fanatical fanbase since it debuted back in 2009. Despite this, we still haven't received a proper mobile game that's worthy of the name.

Again, there was (and indeed is) technically a mobile Dragon Age game called Heroes of Dragon Age which we gave faint praise back in 2013. But to quote from our review, it "offers little connection with the parent series beyond possessing the same setting and character types."

5
Divinity

The long-running Divinity series, from Belgian developer Larian Studios, has grown to become one of the most respected old school RPGs on the market.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 is the latest game in the series, and it won pretty much universal acclaim for its rich traditional RPG trappings. The sheer size and complexity of it might not necessarily suit mobile, but we've played plenty of meaty RPGs on our phones before. We can take it.
