Mid-week iOS releases: Activision Anthology, Blast-A-Way, Splice: Tree of Life, and more

Welcome back to Pocket Gamer's round-up of the latest iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad mid-week releases.

As you all probably know by now, we produce this article each week because we're simply too busy to bring you a story on every single new game that hits the App Store.

These games have recently hit Apple's New Zealand outlet, meaning they should be available to download in the UK and US from around midnight this evening.

iPad Splice: Tree of Life

Splice: Tree of Life is an "experimental and artistic" puzzle game. In it, you attempt to rearrange cells into a target structure in a set number of moves.

Naturally, it's not as simple as it sounds. Cells, for example, react differently and will mutate in different ways, so you'll frequently have to experiment and plan your moves in advance.

Qwak HD
By Mr Qwak - buy for iPad

As many of you will already know, Qwak is a classic 2D platformer that was released on the Amiga all the way back in 1993. It features 70 levels.

This iPad port packs support for the new iPad's glorious Retina display. You can also play through the game's two-player mode using two iPhones and the Joypad app.

Universal Music Master Chopin: Rock

Bulkypix's latest assault on the App Store is a somewhat strange Guitar Hero-esque rhythm-based experience in which you jam to rock versions of some of Frédéric Chopin's greatest compositions.

There are three different difficulty levels and a whole bunch of achievements to unlock as you play.

Blast-A-Way

Your aim in Blast-A-Way is to successfully save the lost Boxies, who've been scattered throughout levels made of wood, metal, fabric, stone, and plastic following a large explosion.

To accomplish your mission, you'll have to utilise bombs, teleporters, rebuilders, colourisers, portals, colour gates, and plenty of other geeky gadgets.

Granny Smith

Granny Smith is a game all about apples. In it, you take control of an elderly lady called Granny Smith (oh dear!), who barrels through farms and cities in search of the thieves that have stolen her delicious stash.

Along the way, you'll have to jump, glide, swing, and smash your way around, over, and through the many obstacles that stand in your path.

The Last Driver

This free iPhone and iPad application houses Activision's entire Atari 2600 catalogue. That means titles such as Pitfall!, Kaboom!, and River Raid are all present and accounted for.

Each game comes with its original box art and manual, as well as Game Center support for leaderboards and achievements.
