The proverbial curtain has just gone up on Square Enix's latest interactive musical opus.

Squeenix's Symphonica has just gone live on the New Zealand App Store, meaning it will be available in the UK and US later this evening. Should be music to your ears.

Square Enix has eschewed the fast-paced rhythm / combat gameplay of its recent smartphone musical hit Demons' Score in Symphonica, which instead focuses on making you feel like the conductor of your very own orchestra.

Unfortunately, that orchestra is the Fayharmonic, and its members are in dire need of a little melodic direction.

By employing a control system in Symphonica that lets you tap anywhere on the screen to register notes, Squeenix lets you conduct the orchestra through a range of well-known classical pieces (over 50 in total) in the hope that you can get this floundering philharmonic back on track.

In addition to a cultured soundtrack, Symphonica contains a story that works in harmony with its playlist, one which promises to take you from bashful baton waggler to conductor extraordinaire.

Wannabe Gustavo Dudamels in the UK and US can sample the first three chapters of Symphonica on their iPhones free of charge from midnight tonight. Unlocking all 12 chapters should cost you around £5.99 / $8.99.

James pivoted to video so hard that he permanently damaged his spine, which now doubles as a Cronenbergian mic stand. If the pictures are moving, he's the one to blame.
