Super Turbo Action Pig iPhone, thumbnail 1
You know how you say you'll do something when pigs fly? Start syncing your iPhone or iPod touch because you're mere moments from witnessing that occasion.

Super Turbo Action Pig hurls an oinker up into the sky for some side-scrolling action to take out the nefarious Butcher Bill. The story is nothing more than an exchange of one-liners - a sign of the shallow arcade action that waits within.

Hitting your only control button fires up the jetpack’s booster, shunting your flying pork toward the top of the screen. Release the button, and he drops toward the bottom. Using this fuel-guzzling gear, the objective is to keep flying for as long as possible without getting hit by a meat cleaver or circular saw.

When pigs fly

The graphics are great - clearly a lot of polish has gone into presentation. Its comic visage adds a lot more value to Super Turbo Action Pig than it probably deserves: in fact, it's likely the only reason to keep you around because there's not much meat on this hog.

It’s not a game that you could accuse of being too easy, mind you. Playing in such short, hard-hitting stints helps keep the replay value reasonably buoyant.

It’s not really a game that lends itself to any multiplayer or online content (other than the increasingly obligatory OpenFeint) but the lack of variety - or any form of clear objective beyond basic point scoring - ultimately harms its longevity.

That’s not to say the game isn’t a lot of fun while its novelty value carries it high in the sky, but the overly raw simplicity soon leaves Super Turbo Action Pig coasting on fumes.

The flying pig motif is easy to get behind for a little while, but once it wears off there’s nothing left but ground up snout and spare ribs
