GDC 2015: Noodlecake Games announces Super Stickman Golf 3, and its awesome level editor app

At GDC this week, I got a first glimpse at Noodlecake Games's next major project: a third game in the much-loved Super Stickman Golf series.

Once again, this is mix of mini golf and the missile-firing mechanic from Worms, where you use a pull-back power meter to thwack a ball into a hole. There are obstacles, sand traps, water hazards, and bumpy terrains to navigate.

And, as before, there will be loads of multiplayer options - including the ultra-addictive race mode from Stickman 2.

For the third game, Noodlecake is using a pleasing 2.5D aesthetic to give the game a little more depth. But don't freak out: it's just a visual trick and this is still the same single-plane sidescroller you know and love.

But the big new feature is the level editor, which will let players forge their own courses and share them online with friends and other players.

It's easy to use, with simple drag and drop tools, and it's powerful too with lots of options for tweaking stats like the gravity. You can even remove all the fancy visuals and just see the framework of your stage.

The developer isn't quite sure how it will release the level editor. I saw it running on a Mac, but there's also the option of a standalone iPad app or - like most level editors - to pack it into Stickman Golf 3 itself.

We'll have to wait and see. This one might not be here until towards the end of the year.
