Netflix to move forward with Stranger Things game without Telltale

In light of last week’s sad news that Telltale Games is shutting its doors, Netflix has released a statement on the status of the planned Stranger Things game the company was working on with the troubled game studio. It looks like Netflix will be moving forward with the project without Telltale Games.

“We are saddened by news about Telltale Games,” Netflix relayed in a statement to Polygon. “They developed many great games in the past and left an indelible mark in the industry. Minecraft: Story Mode is still moving forward as planned. We are in the process of evaluating other options for bringing the Stranger Things universe to life in an interactive medium.”

The Stranger Things game was announced by Telltale Games back in June, so it’s still early days for the project. It’s the second game that was set to come out of the studio’s partnership with Netflix. Telltale is also working on Minecraft: Story Mode, an interactive Netflix-based interactive adventure. The studio’s remaining “skeleton crew” will be wrapping up the project before Telltale Games shutters for good.

Telltale Games, the studio behind popular narrative adventure games like The Walking Dead and Batman, announced it was closing last Friday, laying off 250 employees without severance. 25 employees remain to tie up loose ends before the company will close permanently.
