Remembering Star Wars: Uprising, a shining beacon in a sea of darkness

Probably. I don't really remember.
Product: Star Wars: Uprising | Publisher: Kabam | Format: Android, iPhone, iPad | Genre: Multiplayer, RPG

It's May 4th, which means it's time for us to think about Star Wars, and for Mode 7's Paul Kilduff-Taylor to not tweet the date for once, thank the Lord.

This year, as with every year, we've compiled a list of the best Star Wars games you can get right now on mobile, if you want to celebrate in style.

And you can even pick up some of them on the cheap, along with some discounts on the Disney Tsum Tsum game, if you're so inclined.

Even Harry managed to get in a Star Wars themed hot take on why Luke Skywalker should also be premium. And a slightly less sarcastic look at the Star Wars board games we think should make the jump to mobile.

But now that my self-promotion duties are up, I instead want to talk about one of the better Star Wars mobile games that time has forgotten – largely because it was taken offline a couple of years ago.

Star Wars: Uprising was an action-RPG from Kabam, the same studio which made Marvel: Contest of Champions, and it was kind of perfect in it's not-so-perfect way.

It owed a lot to Diablo – the whole thing was played from an isometric perspective, you were tasked with killing lots of enemies, and there was always a load of loot to grab as you went from level to level.

But what I loved most about it was the dodge roll. I know! A dodge roll! In a mobile game! Usually you have to wait for that to charge up in a MOBA, but here you can roll about however much you please.

Oh, and it was pretty fun to play too. Lots to kill, lots of loot to get, and plenty of fake Star Wars names to laugh at when you got bored.

Now, I only half-remember this game, and I played it for about an hour tops when it first launched, so who knows, maybe it sucked and I'm just misremembering it. Did it even have a dodge roll? No, it did, I just checked. OK, good.

Sadly, Star Wars: Uprising was killed off around a year after it was first released, so you young 'uns out there won't ever get to play it. And I can't go back and try it out to see if it was actually as good as I remember.

Man, maybe I should just play Knights of the Old Republic again instead. That game's flipping great for sure.
