Over on Star Command's Kickstarter page, the game's developer, War Balloon, has outlined some of its plans for upcoming updates for its starship simulator.

For one, the game will be more chaotic than ever. Unattended fires will spread, and your ship will actually blow up if it takes too much damage ("we will now have a hull indicator showing how close your ship is to exploding").

That wrecks the (almost) foolproof strategy for success - hide everyone in a weapons room until you win - that we detailed in our Star Command guide.

To help you deal with those added threats, you'll be able to group together squads of starship crew members.

Plus, an alert system will let you know when trouble's brewing. And those pesky ammo tokens will be removed ("in their place will be a much clearer system on how a room is running and why").

The developer also talked about features that won't be included. That includes a pause button ("we feel like this undermines the core play cycle of chaos management") and automatic repair ("if we just make the crew manage themselves, the game slowly becomes an ant hill observation game").

Once those core features are in, War Balloon says it will focus on new missions. There will be more ship-on-ship combat, of course, but "we are really focusing on non-combat missions that expand the universe and get you involved with the galaxy".

Furthermore, you will eventually have access to away teams, which can pop off to explore planets and invade enemy ships.

"As always," the developer explains, "we have no dates, no estimates, and no idea when these things will be done". War Balloon hopes to have many of these features available for the upcoming Android version.

We gave Star Command a Bronze Award on review, and said, "while blasting aliens out of the sky can be fun, Star Command lacks the depth of a true space sim."

It's on iPhone and iPad now, priced £1.99 / $2.99.
