Who let the hog out? Oh, Sega...

Sonic The Hedgehog races onto iPhone

Sonic The Hedgehog may be dangerously close to exhausting the goodwill of console gamers thanks to some dodgy recent outings, but Sega is hoping his new iPhone game will win friends old and new.

That's right, Sonic is on the iPhone: Sonic The Hedgehog was released today with little in the way of advance hype.

It's very much classic Sonic - we're talking Mega Drive era - with seven zones to run, jump and roll your way through. They include Green Hill Zone and Labyrinth Zone, as well as special stages.

You can play in full-screen or 'Arcade' view, with on-screen virtual controls handling the action. The key thing will be the speed and smoothness, of course - fans will howl if it's not up to the job.

Will Sonic be as big a hit on iPhone as Sega's Super Monkey Ball was last year? Stand by to find out, not least in our review. And if you want to snap it up for its launch price of £3.49, click the Buy It button below.
