Sonic Runners, a new endless runner from Sonic Team, is out now on iOS, Sega has announced. The free to play 2D side-scroller was released in Japan back in February, but has only just made the dash west.

Featuring fast-paced platforming similar to that of the classic Sonic games of the '90s, Sonic Runners also includes other playable characters, such as old favourites Tails and Knuckles. These Heroes have their own classes and abilities, like Sonic's triple jump (triple jump!) and Knuckles' dash attack.

These aren't to be confused with the unlockable companions, like Caliburn and Chip, who can increase your score or enhance purchasable item effects.

You can also compete against Facebook friends in the Runners' League, and interact with other characters in the Sonic universe in story events and boss showdowns.

You can grab Sonic Runners now on the App Store, and shortly on Google Play. Although it's showing as live on Google Play, none of us here at Pocket Gamer can currently download it. It's likely this is a soft-launched version, and that the full version will be out tomorrow.
