If you could run at the speed of sound, would you bother to own a car?

Me neither. But that's the basic premise behind Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing, a colourful kart-racer heading to iOS.

Sonic, Tails, Monkey Ball's Ai Ai, and even Ryo from Shenmue rev up for a weapon-toting Grand Prix that'll be familiar to anyone who's played Mario Kart.

The game features various locations and items from the Sega universe, and packs the all-important local multiplayer mode from version 1.0.

The Xbox 360, Wii, and PC versions of the game have scored pretty well at review, averaging around eight out of 10.

With Mario about as likely to appear on iOS as he is to shave, this looks like the best bet yet for iPhone kart racing.

There's no word from Sega on release dates or pricing yet, but we'll keep you posted.

I have this on the Xbox 360 and it is a lot of fun. I just wish EA would provide online multiplayer support.
