Smart Boy

Hyperkin - the guys who made a console with five different retro cartridge slots - says it will develop a device that turns your iPhone into a Game Boy, following the success of an April Fools prank.

On April 1st, the firm showed off the "Smart Boy" - a chunky device that looks like the bottom half of a Game Boy, which clamps to the bottom of an iPhone 6 Plus.

It apparently reads old Game Boy and Game Boy Color cartridges and shows the action on the screen.

Well, Hyperkin says it wasn't actually a gag. It was stealthily testing the waters to see if people would actually want such a thing. And they do. So the firm is going to make it.

"Looks like you awesome folks ACTUALLY WANT IT," said Hyperkin on the book of faces. "So the Smart Boy is now in development! Thank you all for your enthusiastic responses!"

Now the Retron5 manufacturer just has to beat two insurmountable bosses and get the necessary iOS app past Apple and onto the App Store, and get the cheeky retro design past Nintendo's overzealous lawyers.

I'll eat my hat if this thing ever comes out. But I'd also buy one the second I'm finished.
