When it comes to gacha games, there's no more important — or addictive — activity than summoning. It just sets off endorphins galore when you see five stars pop up on the screen after opening a box.

Of course, that feeling is even better when you haven't had to pay for it. That's exactly why we're running down the best ways to summon in Skylanders: Ring of Heroes.

Don't throw your money at the game just yet, read through our tips and you'll be able to get a mean team of Skylanders without having to pay a penny.

Summoning options

Skylanders Ring of Heroes

You get a bunch of summoning options up front in Skylanders: Ring of Heroes, depending on whether you just want as many Skylanders as possible, or if you're looking for something more specific.

The normal way to summon Skylanders will be with gems, the game's premium currency. Of course you can buy gems with real cash, but if you don't want to (I know I don't) then the next best thing is of course to simply earn them in-game. Which is possible, but can be time intensive.

To summon characters you'll need Soul Stones from summoning chests. There's a big variety available. A single summon can cost you 100 gems, while an Ultra Premium summon can cost 800 gems — a big price increase, but the Ultra Premium option has a lot more to offer.

You can also get items and stones with your Wish Stones, at the high cost of 1000 stones for a single chest. Yikes. Luckily, these are much easier to earn and you'll get a bunch as you play through the game.

In addition to that, there are currently multiple Event Summons. Right now the Event Summons allow you to summon Skylanders of a certain elemental affinity, though these Event Summons will change regularly in future, so keep checking back to see what's available. Though, at 1000 gems, the Ultra Premium summon might still be the better choice.

Getting gems

Of course the most obvious, and expensive, way of getting gems will be to pay for them. I don't recommend this, and it's not the advice you came for, is it?

Of course go out on adventures and into the elemental dungeons, these battles will offer rewards which are likely to be gems, especially if the quest specifies that it has a first time completion bonus. These are often gems, thankfully.

Other than that though, just keep plugging away at missions and following your quest objectives and you'll eventually have enough gems to perform another Ultra Premium summon.

Summon tickets

Ah, now summon tickets are lovely. Simply, a summon ticket lets you perform a given summon without having to pony up the gems, and that's great. You'll regularly get them from quests and missions.

Better yet, often when you receive summon tickets from quests, the next quest will be to perform a summon, which you can of course do instantly with a ticket. Nothing to sneeze at there.

Use summon tickets as soon as you get them, and reap the rewards.
