Pocket Gamer's Skylanders collector's guide

So, you're thinking of collecting every available Skylanders toy, are you?

If that's the case, you should find this collector's guide extremely useful.

With so many re-releases, specials, and coloured variants, it's easy to lose track of just how many Skylanders figurines there are, after all.

To make life easier for you (and me), we've split this collector's guide into two parts.

The first part (below) features all of the toys from the Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure era. Part two of this ongoing project (coming shortly) features every toy from the Skylanders: Giants era.

Remember: All Skylanders from the Spyro's Adventure era have green bases. If you see a figurine with a orange base, it's from the Giants era.

Series 1

There are 32 different Skylanders figurines in the Series 1 base set.

Three of these figurines - Gill Grunt, Spyro, and Trigger Happy - are available as part of Activision's Xbox 360 and PS3 Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure Starter Pack.

You can purchase the rest separately in single and triple figurine packs, and in adventure packs, which feature special toys that unlock DLC inside the console versions of Spyro's Adventure.

All 32 base figurines (listed below) are compatible with Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure, Skylanders: Giants, Skylanders: Cloud Patrol, Skylanders: Lost Islands, and Skylanders: Battlegrounds.

Collecting all 32 base figurines won't be cheap. A single figurine pack will set you back approximately £7.99, whereas triple packs and adventure packs cost around £19 apiece.

Many high street stores have stopped stocking these base figurines in favour of the newer Skylanders: Giants figurines, so you may have to try your luck on eBay and similar sites where prices are slightly inflated.

Still, it's generally cheaper overall to boost your collection with triple packs rather than singles.

Buying Bash, Chop Chop, and Eruptor in single packs, for example, will cost you around £24. But, you can buy them all in a triple pack for close to £19 if you shop around.

These are the triple packs on offer:

If you purchase all of the triple packs above, you'll still be missing Ghost Roaster, Slam Bam, Sunburn, Terrafin, and Wham-Shell.

Wham-Shell is the only Skylander in the base set of 32 figurines that must be purchased on its own.

The other four Skylanders that can't be bought in triple packs are included alongside various magic items in the following adventure packs.

Legendary series

Several of the characters from the Skylanders base set have been re-released as Legendary figurines. In the process, they've received a cool-looking blue and gold paint job.

In the Skylanders universe, these Legendary warriors have slightly better stats than their regular counterparts.

There are four Legendary figurines from the Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure era to collect. These are Bash, Chop Chop, Spyro, and Trigger Happy.

In the UK and US, these figurines were sold exclusively through retailer Toys R Us. Legendary figures are now quite rare (they're generally listed as out of stock on the Toys R Us website), so eBay is your best port of call if you're looking to pick them up.

Bash, Chop Chop, and Spyro are available in a triple pack, whereas Trigger Happy must be purchased separately.

Coloured variants

There are no fewer than 19 ultra-rare coloured variants of select figurines from the Skylanders base set.

When we say 'ultra-rare', we really do mean ultra-rare, too. Some of these figurines now go for hundreds of pounds on auction websites.

These toys, which were included randomly in common triple packs or given out at Skylanders-themed events, boast unique colour schemes but have no in-game advantages.

Basically, you can avoid the following figurines if you're not an obsessive collector.

Of the above figurines, Dark Spyro is probably the most common. Dark Spyro is featured alongside Ignitor and Stealth Elf in the Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure 3DS Starter Pack.

Sidekick series

Four Skylanders Sidekicks were released prior to the launch of Skylanders: Giants.

They were only available in the US through a special Frito-Lay promotion that ran during July and August 2012, so don't expect to find them on the UK high street.

You can, however, purchase them from eBay and other auction sites for about £60.

Sidekicks aren't playable characters. They're actually more like mini-support items that hover around the feet of your full-size Skylanders.

The four Sidekicks are Gill Runt, Terrabite, Trigger Snappy, and Whisper Elf.
