Skater is a new skateboarding game for iOS in the style of Touchgrind Skate and True Skate.

You play as a pair of shoes on a skateboard and use a series of swipes and taps to perform tricks. It's far from easy.

Unlike arcade skateboarding games, Skater is more aligned with the finicky demands of the street sport in real life.

This mean you have to use your thumbs to hit the right parts of the skateboard to perform the tricks you want to.

Ollies involve tapping the end of the skateboard, while kickflips require swish flicks across the board while in the air. If your swipe isn't fast enough you won't be able to land back on the board.

Developer Frosch Media's big claim is that Skater is the first mobile game with "the full range of street tricks." It well could be - it seems to offer a lot of depth for you to master.

Luckily, to help you along, it has saved replays so you can watch how other players have put tricks together around the game's many spots.

If you really are into skateboarding, then you'll also appreciate that the game has real branded shoes and decks from etnies to Pig Wheels.

It also has real-world spots to skate around, including Carlsbad Gap, Hollywood High, Stoner Plaza, Camp Woodward and The Berrics. More are yet to come, too.

If you like a proper challenge with your skateboarding game then Skater certainly seems to be worth a try.

You can purchase it for £2.99 / $4.99 on the App Store right now.
