New instalment of classic city builder boasts new landmarks

SimCity Deluxe breaks ground on iPhone this summer

SimCity Deluxe, a new iteration of the best-selling city building and management simulation, will break ground on iPhone and iPod touch this summer.

The game forwards the core gameplay of the first iPhone version, this time introducing new landmarks such as Big Ben and the Eiffel Tower with which to decorate your city.

Of greater interest are tweaks to the interface - something which was criticised in our review. Supposedly, SimCity Deluxe will boast a revised interface, though the initial artwork doesn't seem far off from the previous game's layout.

More important to us is performance optimisation, which is sorely needed to ensure the game runs without a hitch. With more than a year having passed since the last game, it's safe to assume improvements will have been made.

With iPad launching well ahead of the game's summer release, we're curious if SimCity Deluxe may also feature enhancements that take advantage of the device's larger screen.

We've contacted EA for more details and to confirm the game's summer release date.

Thanks Electric Pig.
