Updated 20th October, 09:36 AM: After a lot of waiting and wondering, Shoot the Dragons has suddenly dropped on the App Store - this is not a drill.

Grab this gorgeously designed game free-to-play on the App Store now.

I suppose I've been waiting a little while to touch on Shoot the Dragons properly but it's certainly been on the radar. Since it's undergoing its third round of testing, one can only hope that the game's release date is creeping closer and closer.

First thing to notice is its super clean art style and fluid animations reminiscent of Ray Man Origins in a way, and for some reason reminds me a little of Zombie Vikings. This side-scrolling shoot 'em up is both weird and wonderful as you (a heroic space captain of some kind) face off against an impressive number of dragons of all shapes and variety.

It has the classic flavours of an arcade shooter, throwing wave after wave of foes at us before introducing the big boss at the end of the level. The one area where it could struggle if it's not careful is in its backstory/general story if there is one. Without knowing why we're doing something, it because quite difficult to commit to it for hours at a time.
