English-speaking Atlus fans can finally play the seminal Super Famicom dungeon-crawler Shin Megami Tensei without a Japanese dictionary nestled in their laps.

This is because the first (officially) localised version of the game has just landed on iPhone.

This is the first game in the SMT series (the latest of which, Shin Megami Tensei IV, came out on 3DS last year), and it spawned countless spin-offs like Persona, Devil Summoner, and Devil Survivor.

Set in a demon-infested '90s Tokyo, this 1993 game gives you a handy ability, via a computer program, to chat with demons and recruit them to fight for you.

Across the 40- to 60-hour story, you'll have to fuse monsters to create the right team, make critical decisions that change the outcome of the game, and fight hundreds of enemies.

RPG expert Matt gave the game a Silver Award and said that "if you're ok with the idea of a tough-as-nails RPG that doesn't hold, or even look at, your hand, Shin Megami Tensei offers an unprecedented look back at the origins of some of the more popular modern JRPG franchises."

You can get the game now on iPhone (sorry, tablet fans, there's no native iPad version) for a special launch price of £3.99 / $5.99. It will shoot up to £5.49 / $7.99 on March 31st.
